Traffic Survey brought forward

8.00.00pm GMT Fri 3rd Nov 2006

John Ray, Darlington Borough Council's Chief Highways' Officer, attended a meeting of the North Road Community Partnership on Thursday, November 2nd. Lib Dem Councillor Fred Lawton delivered hundreds of leaflets in the Leyburn Road area, inviting residents to come along and speak to Mr Ray about local traffic problems.

Many angry residents attended the meeting. Mr Ray was left in no doubt about the strength of feeling in Leyburn Road about the massive increase in traffic in Leyburn and the speeding traffic in Fitzwilliam Drive. This is a direct result of the Council's new scheme to improve traffic flow on North Road by blocking off Holwick Road and the Thompson East slip road. A rat run has been created down Leyburn Road, as drivers look for a quicker way to access North Road by avoiding the Thompson Street lights.

Such was the strength of feeling that Mr Ray agreed to conduct a full traffic survey of the area, to assess what changes had occurred and to investigate possible remedial action. We will keep campaigning on your behalf over this.
