Cllr Mike Barker

A Community Partnership for Hurworth and Neasham

6.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 29th Jun 2006

Liberal Democrat Councillor Martin Swainston has facilitated the establishment of a Community Partnership in his ward, covering Hurworth and Neasham. This is despite the opposition of local Conservative Councillors who, believing that only they know best, do not want to see local people involved in running local community affairs.

A Community Partnership is a non-party political group of individuals who share the common goal of improving their locality. Over the past few months, people from all over Hurworth ward have come together to meet and agree a way forward for the group. A draft constitution has been agreed, along with a Steering Group to run its daily affairs.

It is hoped that over the next few months, as the Partnership establishes itself, sources of funding will be realised.
